The Trail Went Cold - Episode 381 - Melissa Chilton and Tiffany Campbell
Wednesday May 29, 2024
Wednesday May 29, 2024
February 22, 1996. Nashville, Tennessee. 18-year old Melissa Chilton and 18-year Tiffany Campbell show up for work at Exotic Tan for Men, a tanning salon which doubles as an adult entertainment establishment. At some point during their shift, an assailant murders the two women in the salon’s laundry room and they are stabbed a combined total of over 100 times. Seventeen years later, a suspect named Patrick Streater, who happens to be Tiffany’s former boyfriend, is charged with both murders. However, in 2018, the authorities announce that new DNA testing has significantly weakened their case against Streater, making it impossible to take him to trial, so the murder charges are dropped. Did Patrick Streater actually kill Melissa Chilton and Tiffany Campbell or was someone else responsible? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a horrific double homicide which is often referred to as the “Tanning Bed Murders”.

June 19, 2001. Anchorage Alaska. While staying at a motel, 52-year old registered nurse Thomas Nuzzi fails to check out and does not show up for his next scheduled work assignment in the town of Bethel. Six days later, Thomas’ abandoned Jeep is found at a remote ski lodge in Chugach State Park, but an extensive search of the area fails to find him. In the days prior to his disappearance, Thomas was seen with an unidentified man and woman. The couple continued to occupy Thomas’ motel room after he vanished, but they are never tracked down and it’s unclear if they had any involvement in what happened to Thomas. Was Thomas Nuzzi the victim of foul play or did he orchestrate his own disappearance? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a puzzling unsolved missing persons case from Alaska. Wednesday May 15, 2024
August 24, 1991. Widnes, England. After receiving a phone call from an unknown person, 42-year old Vera Anderson asks a neighbour to watch over her son while she steps out, but even though Vera says she will only be gone for ten minutes, she never returns. Hours later, Vera’s body is discovered inside her parked car at the Old Tannery Complex in Penketh over four miles away and she has been strangled and had her throat slashed. Since witnesses recall seeing Vera at a pub with a man that night, investigators look into the possibility that he might be her killer, but this man is never identified. The Trail Went Cold - Episode 378 - Leroy Drieth and Shelly Malone
Wednesday May 08, 2024
Wednesday May 08, 2024
May 30, 1968. Mead, Colorado. After leaving a party being held at his fiancee’s residence, 18-year old Leroy Drieth is killed when his car crashes into a tree. Prior to the crash, Leon had reportedly made a statement that he was going to kill himself, so his death is ruled to be a suicide. Decades later, Leroy’s sister learns some incriminating information about an altercation which supposedly took place at the party between Leroy and some of Patty’s family members. After Leroy’s body is exhumed, an autopsy uncovers a pair of knife wounds on his neck and while his cause of death is officially changed from “suicide” to “undetermined”, there are still no conclusive answers about how Leroy was killed.
October 18, 1992. Fauquier County, Virginia. While horseback riding with a friend, 37-year old Shelly Malone is supposedly thrown to the ground before her horse stomps on her chest with such force that it ruptures her heart. While Shelly’s death is ruled to be an accident, her family notices suspicious behaviour from her friends, as well as alleged discrepancies in their story about how she was killed. After discovering small traces of blood inside her truck, Shelly’s family becomes convinced that she was murdered and that the so-called horseback riding accident was staged, but are unable to convince the authorities to reclassify her death.
On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a pair of suspicious unexplained deaths in which the victim’s loved ones were certain that foul play took place.
If you have any information about the death of Leroy Drieth, please contact the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at (970) 356-4015. If you have any information about the death of Shelly Malone, please contact the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 347-3300.

The Trail Went Cold - Episode 377 - John Glasgow
Wednesday May 01, 2024
Wednesday May 01, 2024
January 28, 2008. Little Rock, Arkansas. 45-year old John Glasgow leaves his home and fails to show up for work at his office, so he is subsequently reported missing. The following day, John’s abandoned SUV is discovered in a parking lot at Petit Jean State Park over 70 miles away, but an extensive search of the park fails to find him. Rumours circulate that John’s disappearance may be linked to stress he had been experiencing over an external audit at his workplace, but no evidence is found to indicate that John did anything illegal. In 2015, John’s skeletal remains are discovered at the base of a cliff only one mile from where his vehicle had been found, but a cause of death cannot be determined. Why did John Glasgow drive to Petit Jean State Park? Was his death a suicide or did foul play take place? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a missing persons case in which the recovery of the victim’s remains failed to provide any conclusive answers.
If you happen to have any information about this case, please contact the Conway County Sheriff’s Office at (501) 354-2411.

July 17, 1966. Hendersonville, North Carolina. A pair of close friends, 43-year old Vernon Shipman and 36-year old Charles Glass, both go missing and Vernon’s abandoned car is soon found on a dirt road near his residence. Five days later, Vernon and Charles’ bodies are discovered in an isolated area alongside the body of a 61-year old Asheville resident named Louise Davis Shumate and all three victims have been bludgeoned to death. Even though Louise does not appear to have any known connection to Vernon or Charles, multiple witnesses report having seen all three of them inside Vernon’s car with an unidentified man prior to their deaths. Decades later, some investigators express their belief that a deceased criminal named Edward Thompson committed the murders, but there is no conclusive evidence to implicate him. Since Vernon and Charles were both gay men, could the murders have been a hate crime? If not, what was the actual motive and how did Louise become mixed up in the whole situation? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore one of the most bizarre unsolved triple homicides you’ll ever hear about.

Wednesday Apr 03, 2024
March 18, 1991. Azalea, Oregon. Two-year old Tommy Gibson goes missing from the front yard of his rural home. Larry is eventually charged with the crime and convicted of second-degree manslaughter and serves nearly three years in prison, but he continually maintains his innocence and no trace of Tommy is ever found. Was Larry Gibson actually responsible for the disappearance of his son? Or was the boy the victim of a stranger abduction? The Trail Went Cold - Episode 372 - Anne Barber Dunlap

Wednesday Mar 27, 2024
December 30, 1995. Minneapolis, Minnesota. 31-year old Anne Barber Dunlap disappears after her husband, Brad Dunlap, claims that she went on a shopping trip. Two days later, Anne’s car is discovered in a K-Mart parking lot with her body inside the trunk and she has been repeatedly stabbed in the head and neck. Since Brad took out a life insurance policy on Anne in the months prior to her death, he becomes the police’s prime suspect. However, Anne’s parents vigorously defend Brad and there is not enough evidence to conclusively implicate him in her death. Was Anne Barber Dunlap actually murdered by her husband or was an unknown third party responsible? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a controversial unsolved homicide which has spawned very divisive opinions.
